Criminal Defense intake · Managed by VoxLead
Criminal defense intake, answered every hour of the night
Arrests happen after midnight and on weekends, and the family calls the first firm that picks up. VoxLead answers every new-client call for your firm, takes the details your attorneys need for a first call and a conflict check, and sends anyone in custody straight to your on-call attorney.
Why criminal defense firms lose clients to voicemail
A criminal case is usually decided by who calls back first. A parent who reaches voicemail at 11 PM calls the next firm on the list, and by morning that family has hired someone. Answering every call, with a calm voice and a clear next step, is the cheapest new client a defense firm can get.
Matters the intake covers
- DUI / DWI
- Drug charges
- Assault and domestic violence
- Theft and property crimes
- Warrants
- Probation violations
- Traffic and license suspension
- Expungement and record sealing
What your attorneys get from every call
Your firm approves the questions. These are where most firms start, and we change them to match how you work.
- Who is calling, and who was arrested, kept apart so the attorney knows who is who
- The charge, as far as the caller knows
- When and in which county it happened, and the arresting agency
- Custody status, where they are held, booking number and bond
- Any court date and which court
- Open cases, probation or parole, and any warrant
- Co-defendants and alleged victims, for your conflict check
- Best callback number, and whether a voicemail or text is safe
What happens on a criminal defense intake call
The same eight steps on every call, so nothing depends on who happened to pick up.
01
The call is answered
Day, night, weekend or overflow. The intake specialist says it is the firm's intake assistant and that the call may be recorded.
02
Caller details are taken
Name, the best callback number, and whether a voicemail or text to that number is safe.
03
The facts of the matter
The charge, as far as the caller knows; When and in which county it happened, and the arresting agency; Custody status, where they are held, booking number and bond; Any court date and which court.
04
Names for your conflict check
Other parties, co-defendants or opposing parties are recorded for your firm to check. VoxLead never says a conflict is cleared.
05
Urgency rules are checked
Your rules decide what is urgent. Anyone in danger is told to call 911 first.
06
The attorney is alerted
Urgent intakes go to your on-call attorney by text and email straight away, and can be transferred if you allow it.
07
A consultation or callback is set
Booked on your calendar during the call, and the caller gets a confirmation text.
08
The intake is delivered
An attorney-ready summary goes to your team, and to Clio or HubSpot if you use them. If any step fails, VoxLead follows up rather than reporting success.
Urgent matters, and the lines it never crosses
Sent straight to your on-call attorney
- Someone is in custody right now
- A court date in the next 48 hours
- An active warrant
- Anyone in danger, which is sent to 911 first
What the intake specialist never does
- Gives legal advice or says the caller "has a case"
- Comments on bail or whether it will be granted
- Tells anyone whether to talk to the police
- Asks the caller to describe what happened in detail
- Promises the firm will take the case
VoxLead is not a law firm. It does not give legal advice, decide whether your firm takes a case, or create an attorney-client relationship. An attorney at your firm makes every one of those calls.
Criminal Defense intake questions
- Does VoxLead give callers legal advice?
- No. The intake specialist says at the start of the call that it is the firm's intake assistant, takes the facts and books an attorney call. It never gives legal advice, never comments on bail and never says the firm has agreed to represent anyone.
- What happens when someone is in custody?
- The call is marked urgent and your on-call attorney gets a text and an email with the intake straight away, day or night. You choose who is on call and whether calls can be transferred.
- Can it run our conflict check?
- It collects the names you need for one: the person charged, co-defendants, alleged victims and witnesses. Your firm runs the check. VoxLead never tells a caller a conflict is cleared.
